Maid hiring process

How the maid hiring process works in Malaysia

Seven clear steps, from your first conversation with our consultant to handover and follow-up. Here is what happens at each stage, and what we need from you.

  1. Step 1: Tell us your requirements

Share who needs care, the main duties, your preferred nationality and language, and any household considerations.

A short WhatsApp or phone conversation is enough to start. We ask about the ages of children or elderly family members, cooking expectations, the size of your home, pets, and religious or dietary needs, so that we only recommend suitable candidates.

  2. Step 2: Review suitable maid biodata

We share biodata of candidates whose experience and skills fit your needs.

Each biodata summarises the candidate’s work experience, skills and languages. Ask us about anything that is unclear — we would rather you choose carefully than quickly.

  3. Step 3: Arrange an interview

Speak with your shortlisted candidate, usually by video call, before you decide.

We help schedule the interview and can suggest questions. If the candidate is not the right fit, we continue the search with you.

  4. Step 4: Complete recruitment documentation

We guide you through the employment contract and the documents your application needs.

You receive a checklist for your specific case. Requirements depend on the helper’s nationality and the current rules of the Malaysian authorities and the source country.

  5. Step 5: Process applications and approvals

Your application is submitted to the relevant authorities and followed up by our team.

Processing times depend on government and embassy approvals and on how quickly documents are completed. We keep you updated, but no agency can guarantee approval or a specific date.

  6. Step 6: Arrival, medical screening and orientation

After arrival, the helper completes her FOMEMA medical examination and an orientation.

Travel is arranged once approvals are in place. The orientation covers household expectations and practical working arrangements before she joins your family.

  7. Step 7: Handover and follow-up

We hand over your helper and stay available for questions after placement.

After-placement assistance includes guidance on settling in, and later on permit and contract renewal. Replacement terms depend on your package and service agreement.

Processing time varies with documentation, government and embassy approvals, travel arrangements and other requirements. Timelines we share are estimates, not guarantees.

What affects how long it takes

  • Your documents. Complete, clear documents avoid back-and-forth.
  • Government and embassy approvals. Processing times are set by the authorities and vary.
  • The helper’s own documents. Passport, training and pre-departure requirements in her home country.
  • Travel arrangements. Flight availability and arrival scheduling.
  • Medical screening. The FOMEMA examination after arrival must be completed before the process can finish.

We will give you an estimate for your case and keep you updated. We cannot guarantee approval or a specific arrival date.

Contract, salary and rest days

Final Choice generally arranges a two-year employment contract. The contract sets out the helper’s salary, rest day, working arrangements and other terms. Requirements differ between Indonesian and Filipino helpers, and are set by Malaysian law and the agreements and rules of each source country.

Your consultant will explain the terms that apply to your helper before you sign. Employer eligibility requirements, such as income criteria, are separate from the helper’s salary.
